Eulimene
We are delighted to welcome Eulimene into The Grove Crete – Hospitality Services portfolio, a villa of exceptional calm and understated elegance overlooking the Libyan Sea.
Located above the serene waters of Aniforas Bay, just a few minutes from Agios Pavlos, Eulimene embodies a contemporary architectural vision shaped by nature itself. With its pure lines, thoughtful materials, and seamless integration into the landscape, the villa offers an atmosphere of deep relaxation and harmonious retreat.
Designed for up to eight travellers who appreciate authenticity, quiet luxury, and unbroken sea views, Eulimene features a large open living room and kitchen on the ground floor, four beautifully arranged bedrooms on the lower floor, two expansive terraces, a private pool, and a Mediterranean garden. Natural textures, neutral tones, and a minimalist design philosophy allow the surrounding beauty — cliffs, sea, sky — to take centre stage.
Eulimene is particularly suited for families, couples, design enthusiasts, or creative minds seeking inspiration in one of Crete’s most untouched regions. Its remote, contemplative character encourages slow living, mindful days, and a profound connection with nature.
In Greek myth, Eulimene is first known as one of the Nereids — the 50 sea nymph daughters of Nereus, the gentle “Old Man of the Sea,” and Doris, an Oceanid. As the Nereid of good harborage, she was invoked for safe arrival, calm waters, and protection at sea. From this tradition, the name evokes serenity, guidance, and the quiet strength of the ocean — qualities that resonate with the villa’s peaceful location above the Libyan Sea.
A second tradition places Eulimene firmly in Cretan legend, as the daughter of Cydon, a king of ancient Crete. Her story, though tragic, was widely retold in the island’s early mythography: celebrated for her beauty and grace, Eulimene became the center of a powerful tale of love, loyalty, and fate. While her life was shaped by the strict codes of honor that governed ancient Crete, her memory endured for centuries, symbolizing the intertwined forces of destiny and devotion.
These two strands — a sea nymph associated with safe passage and a Cretan princess woven into the island’s ancient lore — meet poetically in the villa’s setting. Eulimene stands where land meets water, where stillness meets story, and where the deep past of Crete shapes the experience of the present.
